We have Compression Therapy here at Health Works for you!
Compression therapy is a cornerstone in the treatment of venous disorders and diseases of the lymphatic system. Compression therapy is also used to prevent venous thrombosis. Here at Health Works, our fully trained staff will fit you for your Compression needs.
What is compression therapy?
How does graduated compression therapy help with the management of venous problems? As a person walks, the contraction and relaxation of the calf muscles around the veins aid in moving blood toward the heart. The external graduated compression of SIGVARIS socks and stockings act as a layer of muscle by gently squeezing the stretched vein walls together, allowing the valves to close. The cavity of the vein is reduced, thereby restoring blood flow to a normal state and aiding overall circulation.
To be most effective, the socks or stockings should be put on at the start of your day and removed before you go to bed. Some people have an inherited weakness of the vein walls or valves which creates additional challenges to venous return. Wearing SIGVARIS graduated compression socks or stockings is vital for the prevention and treatment of varicose veins and other circulatory problems.

Heavy and tired legs and swollen ankles, beside skin changes, can be signs of a chronic venous disease. Around 15 percent of the population suffer from chronic venous insufficiency, a serious disease with real clinical consequences. Wearing compression stockings is central in the treatment of venous disorders.
Principles of Compression Therapy
By compressing the limb with graduated compression (strongest at the ankle and decreasing going up the leg) the compression stocking helps the venous return, decreases venous pressure, prevents venous stasis, reduces edema, slows deterioration of venous walls, and efficiently relieves aching and heavy legs by aiding the body in moving blood up the leg against the pull of Gravity. This treatment is prescribed by a clinician to treat lymphoedema, phlebitis thrombosis, aftercare following surgery, sclerotherapy, and any other forms of varicose veins. It also relieves all conditions of chronic venous disease (heavy legs, varicose veins, edema’s and leg ulcers).
Available in calf height, thigh high, and panty hose. We also carry compression sleeves. All styles are available in a variety of different materials and colours!
